The Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH) has taken another step in shaping Malaysia’s transport sector with the launch of its Affiliate Membership programme. For the first time, companies outside the core haulage business are invited to formally connect with AMH’s network, opening new channels of collaboration across the industry.

Affiliate members receive access to AMH’s pool of more than 200 member companies, which together represent close to three-quarters of Malaysia’s container haulage market. The programme is designed with exclusivity in mind, limiting the number of affiliates in each segment to ensure meaningful engagement. Members are promised visibility at AMH events, direct introductions to operators, and priority when it comes to sponsorship opportunities. The membership runs on a two-year cycle.

“With affiliate members, we want more integration so that our members gain added benefits, while partners also have more opportunities to engage with the industry,” said Soo Chee Yeong, President of AMH.

Asian Trucker Media has become the first media outlet to join AMH as an affiliate member. Editor Stefan Pertz said, “This is an important move not only for us, but for the wider industry. For the local transport industry to thrive, all stakeholders must play a part. We are proud to be AMH’s first affiliate member, and hope that other companies will join in our effort to advance our industry.”

Port Klang-based Steelbro, known for its sidelifter and container-handling equipment, has also signed on as an affiliate, adding valuable expertise in lifting and transport solutions to AMH’s expanding network.

Formed in 2006 through the merger of earlier haulage associations, AMH has grown into one of the most recognised voices for container transport in Malaysia. From its base in Selangor, with branches in Penang and Johor Bahru, the association works closely with ministries and agencies such as the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) to represent industry concerns and improve operational standards. Even during the pandemic years, AMH stayed active, logging hundreds of online meetings to ensure hauliers had a voice at the table.

The association has also put manpower at the centre of its agenda. With the sector facing driver shortages, AMH is collaborating with education providers such as the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) to offer both short-term and long-term training solutions. The aim is to build a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals while supporting existing members with cost optimisation and efficiency improvements.

The Affiliate Membership programme now adds another layer to this work. By bringing in partners from connected industries, AMH is setting the stage for closer cooperation and a more integrated transport ecosystem in Malaysia.
